Anyone remember that time Sweden listed its entire countryside on Airbnb?
A cheeky tourism campaign, to be sure. But honestly, with getaways like the one you see here, the country can drop the gimmicks. Built on the hillsides of Åsberget Mountain near the Ljusnan River Valley in Hälsingland, the 33-foot-tall Loft House sits on stilts and offers commanding views of the landscape below.
Designed by architect Hanna Michelson of Tham & Videgård Arkitekter, the two-story structure is the first of four that will be completed within a complex. With an exterior made from pine and spruce and an interior constructed from mainly ash and birch, the Loft House and its minimalist design only serve to accentuate the fullness and emptiness of the space.
To add to that dynamic, what little furniture there is on the first floor of the building is built into the walls and the futon mattresses can be hung on the wall to free up extra room. On the top level, the open-air timber construction is as serene as it gets.
