Solar-Powered Outlet Will Make You the Most Popular Guy at the Airport

Now, just pray for sun

Ever been in the airport needing a quick charge for your devices, but every charging station is compromised by other travelers?

Well, you’re going to like this: Window Socket, a solar-powered outlet that you literally slap onto a sun-facing windowpane like it was a Baby On Board sign. It was made by Kyuho Song and Boa Oh of the Samsung Art and Design Institute in Seoul, and it just debuted at Dubai Design Week.

On the window-facing side is a palm-sized photovoltaic cell surrounded by a suction pad; on the other, an outlet. As of now it can only crank out about 1,000mAh, which is enough to power a 60-watt bulb for 20 hours — not quite enough to charge most devices.

But things move fast, so we’ll keep you availed.

Until then, happy outlet hunting.
