You Owe It to Yourself to Schvitz in a Treetop Sauna

We're 99% sure this isn’t some weird Brothers Grimm stuff

There’s strong evidence that early humans were actually tree-dwellers, rather than the popular theory that they were “terrestrial knuckle walkers” (hey, the scientists said it!). If we take that theory as a starting point, the following is true: millennia ago, humans came down from the trees. Now, we return.

Specifically, for a spa day in a tree-top sauna.

Our pick (and the only one we currently know of): The Schwarzwaldhotel Tanne Resort Treehouse Sauna, which is located in Germany’s Black Forest and has a distinctly fairy-tale look about it (just hopefully not one inspired by the Brothers Grimm).

The massive sauna was constructed atop a very large, very old tree (that we assume has probably been reinforced properly by qualified engineers) and gives breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. And don’t worry, you can regain those breaths in their on-site inhalation room. We’d also be down to try whatever this is referring to: “The daily infusion by our bathing master or chef Jörg Möhrle is a very special experience!”

It’s linked to the Wellness Hotel Tanne, and interested parties can book packages that include breakfast, access to the wellness area and the surrounding nature via guided or non-guided hikes, mountain bikes and walking poles.
