What if we said you could buy a pocket knife made out of dinosaur bone for under $100?

Chances are you’d respond one of two ways: 1) “fake news,” or 2) would that make me complicit in some archeological crime? Thankfully, Santa Fe Stoneworks can ease your mind on both accounts.

The knifemaker has been handcrafting blades in New Mexico since 1978, and their Dinosaur Bone + Amber Damascus Knife is 100% real, ethical and currently on sale at Huckberry — along with the rest of their one-of-a-kind pocket knives, with prices up to $65 off.

How does Santa Fe Stoneworks get their hands on this dinosaur bone (and mammoth tusk)? It turns out, petrified dino bone is relatively common, so it “is not considered a loss to the scientific community.” Here, they’re using fragments found in Utah from brontosauruses that lived over 150 million years ago. The mammoth tusk, on the other hand, was fossilized in the Atlantic’s North Sea. And should you think it’s all bone and no bite, the Japanese Damascus steel used in the blade is 16 layers of stainless steel with a core of VG-10 steel known for corrosion resistance and toughness.

But buyer beware, your knife is not going to look exactly like the photos on Huckberry. These are fossils, after all, and part of the fun is no one else is going to have the same brontosaurus shnoz slice as you.
