One Entire Bedroom, in a Box

PONS: Buying a bed and mattress will never be easier

The mattress industry is one of America’s most well-known rackets.

A few years ago, a company called Casper realized this, invented the mattress-in-a-box model and made about a zillion dollars.

But they forgot one thing: the bed. Enter PONS, a new mattress and frame company that packs the whole shebang into a couple boxes and sends them direct to your door.

Like Casper (and their coterie of imitators), PONS makes their mattresses from a semi-firm memory-foam composite that packs down into a box for easy — and free — shipping. Also like Casper, customers get a risk-free 100-night trial after that mattress arrives. If you don’t like it, send it back, no questions asked.

What sets them apart from their progenitors, though? Well, a $50 cheaper pricetag and proprietary cooling system, for starters. But more importantly: a handsome, tech-savvy bedframe that you can buy in concert with that mattress.

The frame comes in three boxes (unpacking those boxes will take you longer than the actual construction, amazingly). PONS advises recruiting a friend to help you build it, but we can tell you from experience that you’re more than capable of flying solo. You won’t be using any IKEA wrenches, either: the bed’s ingenious (and foolproof) design means everything snaps together sans tools.

Total time from unboxing to sawing glorious logs? Ten minutes. Seriously.

And like we mentioned, it’s tech-savvy: the bed has four built-in USB devices for charging your devices, along with touch-enabled night lights to help you fumble around for those devices in the dark.

PONS plans to start making linens and pillows later this year, at which point you’ll be able to buy a “Queen Me” option that’ll outfit your entire bedroom in one click.

That right there is the future of bedding, my friends.

Rest assured.
