“Netflix and Chill,” as you probably know, is a euphemism for an act that is heavy on the petting and light on the actual Netflix-ing. Not here. Not us. We decided to take things more literally for our version of Netflix and Chill — a new series on better dating that pairs one great streaming movie with one easy-to-make-at-home dessert. Go get ‘em, champ.

To celebrate this month’s return to Netflix of A Clockwork Orange, we tapped the sweet tooth savants at Salt & Straw for an orange-themed dessert. What they came up with: a brownie sundae made with Orange Marmalade Jam.

Ingredients:

1/4 Cup Flour
1/4 Cup Sugar
2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 Pinch Salt
1/4 Cup Water
2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
1 Dash Vanilla Extract
2 heaping spoonfuls of Marshmallow Fluff
Handful of chopped chocolate-covered nuts (Malek recommends Compartes Love Nuts)
Lots of Orange Marmalade/Jam (try Sqirl’s Moro Blood Orange & Tonga Vanilla Bean)
Optional: Handful of Caramel Corn (like Rose Avenue Sweets Caramel Corn)

  1. Start with this five-minute brownie recipe — it’s super easy and the perfect warmed cake for the bottom of your sundae. Mix the flour, cocoa powder, sugar and salt in a microwavable bowl. Slowly add the water, vegetable oil, vanilla extract and marshmallow fluff and stir until there are very few clumps.
  2. Place the bowl in the microwave and cook for about 11⁄2 -2 minutes until the cake is firm but still gooey.
  3. After the bowl has cooled down just a little, add three medium-sized scoops of ice cream; we recommend the perfect combination of your favorite chocolate and vanilla ice creams (fingers crossed you have Salt & Straw in your freezer!).
  4. Lightly chop the chocolate-covered nuts and toss them on top of the ice cream.
  5. Warm the jam and pour (generously) over the top.
  6. Sprinkle caramel corn over the top.
  7. Eat quickly!

Nota bene: if you haven’t been to Salt & Straw know that folks queue for a minute at their Portland and Los Angeles locations. And for good reason: their flavors register 9.0 on the Richter flavor scale. You can order them online, and we strongly suggest you do, too.
