Safari lodges range from basic (read: tent) to palatial (read: Singita), but all you really need to make the most of this classic African guestroom is a vantage point.
A bird's-eye view, perhaps — which may or may not have been the inspiration behind the Nay Palad Bird Nest Hotel. Basically, it's an adult-size nest you can sleep in, with views of the surrounding Kenyan savannah. Plus Champagne.

The hotel is on the Segera Retreat, a private conservation area. Mount Kenya is to the east, and the Great Rift Valley to the west. Guests are, of course, invited on morning and evening safari drives, during which they'll be able to survey the scene for elephants, lions, leopards and more. Or they can just climb up to the hotel's nest-like viewing area, which will be set up with dinner and drinks. There's also space to sleep outside overnight, if you don't feel like bedding down indoors.
At $1,150 per night, it doesn't come cheap. But if you've ever dreamed of sleeping under the stars in a staggeringly beautiful environment — with a 360-degree view and total privacy and safety — it's hard to imagine a better result.
