How to Turn a Bentley Into a Mustang … Sort Of

Ever heard of a sheep in wolf's clothing?

Trying to impersonate the Bentley Continental isn’t a new game. Where there are $300k cars, there will be people trying to replicate those cars for a fraction of the cost, usually by giving a much lesser vehicle a Frankensteinian aftermarket makeover. And that’s exactly what’s going on here.

What you’re looking at here is a Ford Mustang GT. Not a Bentley Continental GT.

The make has its moments though: the exterior features plenty of parts culled from authentic Continentals, including the headlights, taillights, brake lights and reverse lights. But despite the OG AC vents, Breitling clock and shifter handle, the interior reeks of Designer Imposter — namely in those ghastly stock door panels.

All fair and well, but the price (in our humble opinion): not so nice. As told by the seller on Craigslist, (did we fail to mention this is from Craigslist?), this one-of-a-kind ride ran him nearly $100k to build. He used a S195 Mustang GT chassis with a 4.6-liter V8 and 550 ponies. From his description:

“This car is not a Bentley. It is much cheaper to maintain and drive daily. And looks better than almost any Bentley I’ve seen that’s less than $300,000. To compare this car to an early 2000’s Continental GT is pointless. Those cars are unreliable and cost a fortune to maintain. Literally the maintenance on one of those cars if something major breaks would cost you almost as much as this entire car. Those old ones also have outdated looking headlights and taillights and they don’t have a $40k widebody. There is no comparison and I’m not trying to make one.”

For a negotiable $49k, you’re looking at a mighty fine replica with low mileage and cheaper upkeep than any Bentley would run you. On the buying end, that’s not a shabby deal. But on the seller’s end, we hope this was a passion project. Because this guy could’ve snagged a legit Continental GT for roughly the same six figures he put into his modded one right here.

Hell, for a few bucks more, you could probably even turn that Bentley into a Mustang.

We know a guy who can help.
