You’ve inevitably owned — or perhaps still own — a set of IKEA bookshelves, either the old Expedit or the newer Kallax versions.
Bland? Sure, but their strength lies in their versatility.
Movisi thinks they can elevate that flexibility. The German company just launched a Lego-style modular shelving unit called Grow! (the exclamation is theirs) that’s, no joke, 95% air, requires no tools and can be configured over 10,000 ways, from shelves to seating.

This isn’t the first time Movisi has crowdfunded furniture: their BUILD campaign in 2013 was also a success on Indiegogo. As well, their larger line of modular seating and storage has attracted clients like Google, Paul Smith and Ferrari.
Just launched, Grow! is 100% sustainable (it’s built from an airy, recyclable plastic foam), with each piece lighter than a loaf of bread. Each module is essentially three parts: the main piece, connectors and a lid, with an optional stability rib if you're doing seating. Looking like a flattened out “U,” the furniture was designed to be easily rearranged and reconfigured (again, no tools required).
Grow! is available on Indiegogo with sets starting at $34, with delivery scheduled for early 2018.
