Next Phase of the McConaissance? Slinging Bourbon.

Alright, alright, alright

With an accent like this, and the ability to look like this, it feels somewhat inevitable that Matthew McConaughey would eventually try to sell you whiskey.

And now the day has arrived.

The Oscar winning-actor’s newest gig: “Creative Director” of Wild Turkey Kentucky bourbon.

As The New York Times reported this week, McConaughey just inked a multi-year deal with the bourbon brand, in which he’ll write, direct and star in its newest campaign.

“I told them, ‘I don’t want to be just a face. I have ideas. I’m an idea man,’” McConaughey told the Times in McConaughey-like fashion. He went on: “The brand is a little dusty, and in some ways I’m shaping a full-on reintroduction.”

To be clear: he meant a reintroduction to millennials. Because anyone who knows bourbon knows Wild Turkey and legendary distiller Jimmy Russell, who makes an appearance in the first documentary short of McConaughey traipsing around the Wild Turkey Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

Russell’s a legend who celebrated 60 years as Wild Turkey’s master distiller in 2014. That’s the longest tenure of any master distiller in any industry.
