We want the game-worn goggles

Can it with all the MJ vs. LeBron GOAT talk, Internet.

Arguing about ring counts feels a little trivial when another NBA great is selling his off.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently announced on his blog that he’s putting his four championship rings from his years with the Lakers up for auction, along with the basketball used in the last game of his career, signed All Star uniforms, and even a pair of game-worn goggles

For those expecting some sort of cash-poor, Jose Canseco-esque backstory here, no dice: Abdul-Jabbar is doing fine. He just doesn’t want the stuff anymore, and he plans to donate all the funds to the Skyhook Foundation. He wrote on his blog, “[Skyhook’s] mission is to ‘give kids a shot that can’t be blocked.’ We do this by sending children from economically challenged schools to five days in the Angeles National Forest to experience the wonders of nature and learn the basics about science, technology, and engineering … When it comes to choosing between storing a championship ring or trophy in a room or providing kids with an opportunity to change their lives, the choice is pretty simple. Sell it all.”

All that selling will be faciliated by Goldin Auctions, and the lots are live until March 1.  Explore the auction yourself here
