Is That a Sailboat in Your Trunk or Are You Just Happy to See Me?

As liberating as the feeling of being on the open in a boat water is, the actual act of owning a boat can be very cumbersome. You need storage, a trailer and rig big enough to tow her to the shore. Unless of course, your sailboat can fit in the trunk of your four-door.

Designed by sporting goods manufacturer TIWAL, the 10.5-foot-long TIWAL 3.2 is a trunk-sized dinghy that can be outfitted with either a 56- or 75-square-foot sail. Capable of being assembled or packed away in 20 minutes, the compact watercraft weighs 111 pounds but can support 420.

Built for stability and moderate speed, the TIWAL 3.2’s V-shaped underbody is wider than what can be found on a traditional dinghy and the compact boat is also more capable of being righted safely than similar-sized models in the event of a capsize.

The TIWAL 3.2 is built for sturdiness as well and its hull is crafted from the same type of durable PVC materials that have been used to make semi-rigid motorboats and sometimes even blimps.

Looking to put some sails in your wind? The TIWAL 3.2 with the 56-foot sail starts goes for $5,200, the 75-foot sail package is $5,500 and a boat with both is $6,200 (plus shipping).
