This week in “Oh, Canada,” a colossal iceberg made its way through the country’s “Iceberg Alley,” giving the population of Ferryland in Newfoundland a reason to whip out their mobile phones.
Coincidently, the giant chunk of ice was spotted just a day before the 105th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
It’s not uncommon to see icebergs off this part of Canada’s east cost — hence the name “Iceberg Alley” — but this particular berg has been making headlines because it’s been classified by the Canadian Ice Service as “large.” That means this thing could be as much as 240 feet high and 670 feet long.
“It’s the biggest one I ever seen around here,” Ferryland Mayor Adrian Kavanagh told CTV.
We don’t know If the iceberg will inch any closer to shore and turn Ferryland into a crater of destruction, but we do know it’s the place to go if you need a selfie.
