How to Avoid Seat-Mates on Your Next Flight

Or maybe you enjoy small talk with random strangers?

Flying can be less than enjoyable. Especially when you’re cramped up next to a complete stranger. Your neighbor may well be perfectly nice, but if you’re like us, you feel no real urgency to confirm it through hours of banter or armrest warfare.

Fortunately, Lifehacker has found a solution.

While making your way through the airport or waiting at the gate, check your flight’s seating chart with the airline’s app. If the seat next to yours is full, simply switch to an open row.

The trick works up to the minute you board, but certain airlines won’t let you change your seat after check-in. If that’s the case, check the seating chart and then ask an employee at the gate to switch. Unless the flight’s full, it’s worth a shot.

It’s better than being stuck next to one of these guys.
