A New 1,000-HP Camaro Mod Plans to ‘Exorcise’ the Dodge Demon

It comes from Texas. We hear things are bigger there.

Since the debut of its first teaser video in January, the 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon has had the entire automotive automotive world eating from its proverbial palm.

It’s about time somebody stood up and offered a little competition.

The team at Texas tuning house Hennessey just unveiled the deftly named “Exorcist,” a modded Chevy Camaro ZL1 that may just have enough muscle to keep the Demons at bay. And they mean business. The car’s got an additional 360 ponies, bumping the output up to 1,000 horsepower, along with a boosted torque of 1,310 Nm. That’s damn near the super-muscle status of a Bugatti Veyron.

The team has also fitted the ride with a new camshaft, long-tube stainless headers, a high-flow induction system and custom software. The rides will be sold at regular Chevy dealers, while existing ZL1 owners can snag the 1,000-pony upgrade for around $55,000. An automatic 10-speed transmission will run a buyer an extra $9,950.

“Equipped with rear drag radial tires, The Exorcist will deliver 0-60 mph times under 3 seconds while running the quarter mile in less than 10 seconds,” said company founder and president, John Hennessey. “However, The Exorcist is not just a quarter-mile racer. It’s a well-rounded super muscle car that is just as happy on a road course as it is on the dragstrip and street.”

But should it be that drag strip you’re gunning for, Hennessey will be offering a $8,995 drag package with 315/30 drag radial tires and a heartier driveshaft and tool kit. The road-race package with lightweight wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, meanwhile, will run you an extra $6,995.

Hennessey will produce just 100 of the beasts a year, and will deliver the car to their Lonestar Motorsports Park upon request.

Your move, Dodge.
