We first learned the 43rd president of the United States was a painter — and avid Google Image searcher — a few years back, when he revealed his portrait collection to the world. Those works, of world leaders from Vladimir Putin to Angela Merkel, drew their fair share of criticism. But we expect a more positive reception for George W. Bush’s newest batch of portraits.
Created to honor “members of the United States military who have served our nation with honor since 9/11,” Portraits of Courage features headshots of veterans President Bush knows personally. Subtitled A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors, the 192-page volume allows a readers to learn the personal stories of service members while admiring their shining punims … as depicted by the brush of Bush.
“It is President Bush’s desire that these stories of courage and resilience will honor our men and women in uniform, highlight their family and caregivers who bear the burden of their sacrifice, and help Americans understand how we can support our veterans and empower them to succeed,” according to the publisher.
Net author proceeds from the book will go to the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Military Service Initiative, a nonprofit that helps “post-9/11 veterans and their families transition to civilian life with a focus on gaining employment and overcoming the invisible wounds of war.”
The $23 book will be out tomorrow, and the portraits will be displayed in Dallas starting in March.
