Some things were put on this earth to be used in tandem.
Peanut butter and jelly. Wine and cheese. Eye patches and hand hooks.
If you're lucky enough to live in a state where both of these things are legally permissible, we'd like to add one more terrific twosome to the list: marijuana and yoga.
Your correspondent has been doing yoga twice a week for over 17 years, and he has — on occasion — had a toke before a restorative class. The CBD component in cannabis has been proven to reduce inflammation, ease muscle soreness and reduce anxiety. And you might find that experiencing that during a class is very enjoyable. Dusault’s book does a solid job of explaining the responsible use of cannabis and how you can use it to help you focus more on your breath and go deeper into your repetitions.
But while toking up before class may be a fun thing to do every now and then, we wouldn't recommend making a habit of it — the goal of yoga is to learn how to calm your mind and be absorbed into your practice from within, after all.
