Is there any stopping hybrid technologies from taking over the boating industry?
By the looks of the Foiler from UAE-based Enata Marine, we hope not. The hybrid electric yacht is powered by two BMW diesel engines and linked to two electric generators feeding two electric-powered torpedo engines. But the boat’s most striking features, of course, are the two carbon-fiber hydrofoils that allows the vessel to “fly” five feet above the water for unmatched stability on deck.
Hydrofoil technology has been around for years, most prominently in the catamarans that contest the America’s Cup, but the Foiler makes the technology available for private use. As for speed, the yacht has a top speed of 40 knots and a range of 130 nautical miles. Not bad for a glorified sunbather.
Head on over to Foiler for a closer inspection.
