We all daydream about greeting sunrise on top of a remote mountain somewhere, cup of Joe in hand and memory-foam mattress under-tush.
What’s that? Your fantasy didn’t involve the memory foam? Because it could.
Escapod is a new trailer company out of Utah building svelte teardrop campers that can go damn near anywhere without skimping on creature comforts. These handsome husks of lightweight aluminum and American steel are built to order and perfect for places where hotel rooms (or, hell, even an RV hookup) are hard to find.
The brains behind the pods — who are appropriately based out of a garage — pack each and every one of their campers with a list of customizable add-ons to supplement the essentials. But the real boon here is portability: thanks to a best-in-class suspension package (rated to 3,500 lbs.) and lightweight aluminum frame (measures just 5′ x 8′), Escapods can summit damn near any trail you throw at ’em.
Buyers have two options for a base model: the Dreamscape, or the just-launched Topo, which is built on the same chassis as its predecessor but makes standard a bevy of features that were formerly optional. As far as creature comforts go, that means the latter equips a memory-foam mattress, stargazing window, back cooking area with a YETI cooler, roof rack, LEDs and charging stations, all in a floor-to-ceiling, fully insulated 5×8 foot frame. If inclined, you can also throw in a Bluetooth sound system, solar power, electric brakes and even a shower.
