Great weather — which means you can pack less — is a plus. Three hundred million other Americans who’ve come to the same conclusion — that is a minus.
Greater demands means big crowds and high prices. Can’t help with the former if you’re looking for something more ambitious than backyard camping. As to the latter: We’re still going to pay more than during the just-concluded shoulder season, but every once in a while we’ll get a little break — and this time, it comes in the form of a JetBlue flash sale. For sure, these fares are higher than they’ll be in a few months (when the weather sucks, the kids are back in school, and you’re too busy to go anywhere) — but they’re still discounted, with a ton hovering around $50. And notably they allow summer travel — other airlines are discounting fares but not till after Labor Day.
Our picks? Seems like an OK time of year to see St. Thomas (pictured) — $59 fare there if you’re already in San Juan. If you’re not, you can get there for $159 from Tampa.
