Put on all the filters you want: your Instagrams are no match for Andy Warhol’s personal Polaroid collection.
Up for sale now from the high-end auction house Phillips, these washed-out insta-pics of Debbie Harry, Dennis Hopper, Truman Capote, Grace Jones and more date from the late ’70s and early ’80s, and could go for as much as $40,000 each.
These exist for a reason: His art. As the auction site notes: “Andy Warhol took many Polaroids of his subjects in search of the perfect pose that would be immortalized in one of his silkscreens.”
Culled from the personal collection of Piero Bisazza, CEO of the luxury brand Bisazza, other Polaroids up for grabs include snaps from the likes of Robert Mapplethorpe, Diane Arbus and Helmut Newton (beware, some are NSFW).
Unfortunately, the auction is today (Friday) in London — even if you miss it, this is still quite the portfolio to peruse.
