Barely Recognizable Carbon-Fiber Mustang Weighs Less Than You

Custom Fastback is 180 lbs., still packs nearly 1,000 HP

“I don’t think there’s anything Mustang left on this car,” Jay Leno joked after Mike and Jim Ring brought their custom carbon-fiber ‘65 Mustang by the garage that houses his gluttonous auto collection.

And he was almost right.

While the 959 HP Fastback Ringbrothers brought to show off did have entirely new body complete with a 100% carbon fiber roof, doors, hood and trunk, it did have one piece remaining from its former frame: the glass.

Built for an international customer who spends his days driving it around the streets of London, the widebody “Espionage” features an LS7 coupled with a massive Whipple supercharger mated to a six-speed Tremec T56 transmission. Without parts, the body would weigh only 180 pounds, but the lightweight frame didn’t stop the Ringbrothers from installing 14-inch disc brakes.

In order to make the deceptively light-looking Espionage even worthier of undercover work, the brothers layered the exterior in custom “Spy Green” BASF Glasurit Waterborne paint. “They don’t do anything normal,” Leno says. “They always have to take it over the top and make it a little bit better.”

God bless ‘em for that.
