How the One-77 Became the ‘Ultimate Aston Martin’, and Where to Buy One

There's a reason it was once the most expensive car on earth

When Aston Martin sold the first One-77 in 2011, it was fast the most expensive production vehicle on the planet. And while it can no longer claim top honors (by a long shot), this 2012 edition will pull in a far heftier price tag than it did the last time it was sold. Mostly because it’s rarer than steak tartare: one of just 77 models produced, this make is rumored to be just one of two models that have made their way stateside.

The One-77 marked Aston Martin’s induction into the world of hypercars when they introduced it almost a decade ago (hence its designation as the “Ultimate Aston Martin”). Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2008, it then toured the high-end show circuit (Geneva, Lake Como, etc.) for three years before the first production model came off the line. A menacing marriage of carbon fiber and aluminum, it houses a massive 7.3-liter V12 churning out 750 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque.

Set to go for an expected $3.5M over at the DuPont registry, it might be a steal when you consider the previous One-77 went for $3.3M and carried double the mileage.
