As if arming them with frickin’ lasers wasn’t enough, drones are now getting armed with … frickin’ arms.
In order to assist engineers and farmers (or frighten the parents of small children), Japanese electronics company Prodrone has developed a large quadcopter with two robotic arms that are each capable of carrying a max payload of about 22 pounds.
Able to fly for a half hour and reach speeds of up to 37 MPH, the PD6B-AW-ARM’s ability to perform specific “hands-on” operations is evident in a video that shows it performing important tasks like picking up patio furniture and hovering ominously in an open window near a terrace.
“The PD6B-AW-ARM makes a whole new range of tasks possible, and I am confident that nobody else could have made it,” according to Prodrone CEO Masakazu Kono.
