Dadventures – Roadtrip Through Ireland

Ireland, Coast-to-Coast

“When I was 12 my dad took me to Dublin to visit my grandparents. He wanted to show me more than the city, so we drove across the island to the cliffs of Moher. Along the way we were met with narrow, winding roads, medieval ruins and, of course, breathtaking views once we reached the coast.”

Your Marching Orders …

To enjoy this trip, you’ll need an appreciation for medieval history. Namely, castles. So pick up David Macaulay’s Caldecott-winning book on the subject before you go. Once briefed, you’ll fly into Dublin, where you can gaze up at buildings by day and knock back pints by night. Dubliners are also world-class sign-painters, interestingly. After a couple nights, set out across the island by car. Stop in Limerick and check out King John’s castle; eat at Freddy’s Bistro. Once you reach the west coast, take the Doolin Cliff Walk with Pat Sweeny, an OG Irish guy with a penchant for telling tales. Oh, and by the way: you’re staying in a castle.

Your Timekeeper …

Carrera Calibre 16 By TAG Heuer

Leisurely drives along rocky crags don’t demand a classic racing chronograph, but they’re surely enhanced by one. The 43mm Carrera Calibre 16, with its sub-registers set in a black titanium-coated dial, awaits your command. Last one to Killarney’s the rotten egg.
