Last year, Lexus announced plans to add a fourth “flagship” to its product line, joining the LS sedan, LX SUV and LC coupé. This one wouldn’t ride on wheels, though: it would be a 65-foot LY 650 yacht.

This, week the Japan-based automaker dropped an important update on that release.

With a pronounced bow, curved deck accents and accentuated aft hips, the design of the Lexus yacht incorporates many of the elements of the L-finesse Lexus design language. Inspired by Lexus executive vice president Shigeki Tomoyama’s desire to “present a dream-like vision of the luxury lifestyle,” production of the yacht was outsourced to bespoke boatbuilder Marquis-Larson Boat Group.

Based in Wisconsin, Marquis-Larson is not only tasked with building the 65-footers, but with selling and servicing ’em as well.

“Complementing Lexus’ renowned heritage of takumi craftspeople who are supremely skilled in their roles, Marquis’ craftsmanship backbone is clearly demonstrated by their masterful boat builders, many of whom have been with the company for 30 years,” Lexus said in a press release.

Lexus has yet to set a date for the LY 650’s maiden voyage, but the marque has said the new addition will arrive in the waters by late 2019.
