Twenty-five years after it originally aired on their MTV sketch show, the members of The State have reunited — from the safety of their own homes, of course — during quarantine to recreate their classic “Porcupine Racetrack” sketch.
All 11 members of the comedy troupe (Michael Showalter, David Wain, Michael Ian Black, Joe Lo Truglio, Thomas Lennon, Ken Marino, Kerri Kenney, Kevin Allison, Todd Holoubek, Ben Garant and Michael Patrick Jann) came together digitally for a 2020 version of the musical sketch, which Wain shared Wednesday, April 22 on his Instagram account.
“THE STATE unites to recreate this musical extravagansa from our MTV show in 1995,” he captioned the video, noting that it was “recorded from our separate home quarantines, just for fun and distraction during this challenging time.”
They were also accompanied by a group of musicians led by Theodore Shapiro, The State’s original musical arranger and composer, on piano. Kevin Allison shared a screenshot from the performance to his Instagram, and as you’ll notice, his character’s wardrobe has changed slightly from the original 1995 sketch.
