The pandemic has been difficult for a lot of people’s mental health. It’s also been a challenge in terms of remembering how to interact with other people — I myself have found myself apologizing more than once for my atrophying interpersonal skills. Wouldn’t it be great if there was somewhere where people could safely interact with others at their own pace?

Last night’s Saturday Night Live took that idea and ran with it — and then added a riff on how some guys have trouble opening up about their emotions and making new connections. And thus: a sketch about “a dog park, but for guys in relationships.” With the highlight (arguably) being a conversational exchange that consists entirely of the word “Marvel.”

“It’s not their fault masculinity makes intimacy so hard,” states the sketch’s narrator. As for what makes the fact that Vin Diesel has a twin brother fascinating — well, your mileage may vary on that one. But the sketch offers a substantial number of this year’s SNL cast something to do and makes its point effectively. And I’d be lying if that IPA didn’t look at least a little tasty.
