He dominated in his return to Jeopardy … Who is James Holzhauer?
Holzhauer, who saw his 32-game winning streak come to an end in June and finished $58,484 short of Ken Jennings’ all-time winnings record, took on Pennsylvania physician Lindsey Shultz and Georgia software development manager Alan Dunn in his return to Jeopardy for the quiz show’s Tournament of Champions.
As he was during his historic run, Holzhauer dominated the competition and ended up with $30,635. Shultz ($14,000) and Dunn ($1) weren’t even close.
During the opening-round game, Holzhauer played a little differently than he did during his epic winning streak and declined to go all-in on Daily Doubles the way he did in the past.

Thanks to the win, Holzhauer will return to the show to play again next week once the field has been whittled down to eight other contestants. The winners of those three games will then face off for the $250,000 grand prize.
For Holzhauer, who won $2,464,216 during his streak, that grand prize is pocket change and is only about $120,000 more than he won during a single game, $131,127 (the largest single-game payout on the show).
