Though it might feel like a decade has passed since then, the 10th season of Curb Your Enthusiasm concluded its run earlier this year. That was before lockdowns became ubiquitous across the country, and Larry David’s own quarantine routine seemed perfectly emblematic for life during a pandemic. All of which makes it less than surprising that Curb Your Enthusiasm will be back for an 11th season. HBO made the announcement on Tuesday, with Programming VP Amy Gravitt noting that David was already at work writing new episodes.
The announcement has led some to wonder if the new season will incorporate the coronavirus into its plotline somehow — including a pair of television critics speculating on how that might play out.

Earlier this year, Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s Jeff Schaffer contributed to a feature at Vulture about what theoretical coronavirus-themed episodes of various television shows might be like. Might some version of this end up on screen?
Isolated in his house, Larry doesn’t feel imprisoned. He feels relief. Think of all the time he’s saved because he doesn’t have to come up with a good lie about why he doesn’t want to have lunch with you or go to your poetry reading. When he goes for a walk, you can rest assured there will be no stop and chats. He might slip on to the golf course, even though it’s closed, and try to sneak a round in, but he’ll find that without people around, the black swans have gotten even more territorial.
Given that most film and television productions are thoroughly paused, there’s no announcement yet on when we might see this new season — but it’s something to look forward to.
