Leaked Images Suggest Samsung Is Finally Killing the Headphone Jack

You know what they say: “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” Unless you’re a company who makes smartphones, in which case you live by the motto: let’s make it harder for consumers to hold on to the things they love, like their coveted headphone jacks.

Samsung is the last smartphone maker to get rid of the jack. Renderings of the upcoming version of  their flagship phone, the Galaxy Note 10, were leaked to the site SamMobile, and they indicate that the new model will not include a headphone jack. Instead, it will come with one of those lovely dongles that everyone loves and has no complaints about, that converts a standard 3.5-mm headphone jack to a USB-C connector.

The elimination of the headphone jack became an industry-standard after Apple ditched it in 2016 with the release of the iPhone 7. Google, HTC, Motorola, Huawei, Xiaomi, Nokia, and Sony followed suit, much to the dismay of customers who would now have to invest in higher-priced wireless headphones (because cheaper ones don’t always work), or use the dreaded dongle that is prone to breakage (which I can attest to), if they ever wanted to upgrade their devices.

Though this isn’t the first Samsung phone to go jackless. The company announced back in December that the Galaxy A8 would not have a headphone jack, though this wasn’t a consistent feature across its product line. However, the new leak suggests that Samsung is likely to discontinue the headphone jack for good. Pour one out for a real one.
