Less than a week after winning the World Series in Houston, the Washington Nationals will visit President Trump at the White House in Washington, D.C.
Since most of the team’s players will be in town for the team’s parade in downtown Washington on Saturday, visiting the White House so soon afterward makes sense.
The ceremony will take place at 1:15 p.m. on the South Lawn, a White House official said, according to The Washington Post.

It’s a little surprising the Nationals will be visiting Trump so soon given the rocky reception he received when he attended Game 5 of the World Series on Sunday. During the game, Trump was booed when he appeared on the video screen at the park and fans broke into chants of “Lock him up! Lock him up!”

Chef José Andrés, a frequent Trump critic, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Sunday’s game.
The losers of the World Series, the Houston Astros, visited Trump in the White House when they won it all in 2017. Last year’s winners, the Boston Red Sox, also visited Trump, but many minority players opted not to attend. Manager Alex Cora initially planned to attend the visit but ultimately decided not to go due to the federal government’s handling of relief efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
“The government has done some things back home that are great, but we still have a long ways to go,” he said. “That’s our reality. It’s pretty tough to go celebrate when we’re where we’re at. I’d rather not go and be consistent with everything.”
Before the Nationals go to the White House, they’ll be honored by the Washington Capitals on the ice before their game on Sunday.
