After taking heat for being caught on a hot mic criticizing the pre-game military flyover prior to Sunday’s Packers-Buccaneers game with his partner Joe Buck, Fox broadcaster Troy Aikman defended himself on Twitter.

“I love a flyover but it was odd to see one over a mostly empty stadium but I am an unwavering patriot that loves this country, has always respected our flag, supported the men and women in the armed forces as well as those in uniform who serve & protect and for anyone to suggest otherwise doesn’t know me, my beliefs or what I have stood for my entire life,” Aikman wrote on Twitter.

“That’s a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover,” Aikman told Buck as the jets flew over Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. “That stuff ain’t happening with [a] Kamala-Biden ticket, I’ll tell you that right now partner.”

Though Aikman and Buck were basically just calling jet flyovers a waste of money, which they usually are, the mention of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris turned the comments into a partisan issue and led to many on the right ripping into the broadcast team for mocking the military.

The fact that the comments came on Fox, which clearly has some internal political leanings due to its ties to Fox News, probably only made the blowback worse for Buck and Aikman.
