Driving down the field trailing by three points on Monday Night Football, Tom Brady was in position to lead a fourth-quarter comeback as he has 38 times already in his illustrious career.
But Brady’s attempt to hit tight end Cameron Brate deep with less than two minutes left to play was badly overthrown and rookie safety Jordan Fuller picked it off to help seal a 27-24 win for the Rams (7-3) over the Buccaneers (7-4) at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay.
Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff completed 39-of-51 passes for 376 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in the win. Consistently open against a porous Tampa pass defense, wide receiver Robert Woods posted 130 yards on a team-high 12 receptions with one touchdown, while teammate Cooper Kupp had a team-high 145 yards on 11 receptions.
âWe can be as good as we want to be, honestly,â the fifth-year quarterback said after the win. “Weâve got it all in front of us. Everything is there for us to take.â
Brady threw a pair of interceptions and a pair of touchdowns and was just 26-of-48 for 216 yards in the loss. Though they got off to a hot start, Brady and the Tampa offense really struggled in the second half and were limited to a touchdown and field goal, both set up by Goff interceptions.
“Disappointed. I have to do a better job,â Brady said. “They did a good job preventing [the big play]. They play a defense that makes them tough to hit. Not impossible, but we didnât hit any.â
With the win, the Rams moved into first place in the NFC West and are now in great position to finish out the season strong and potentially lock up one of the top playoff spots in the NFC.
Thanks to the loss, Tampa is now 1-3 in four primetime games with their lone victory coming over the New York Giants.
Monday’s game was worked by an all-Black crew of officials, the first time in NFL history that has happened.
