It might be because he has millions of reason to do so, but Tiger Woods came out in support of his longtime sponsor Nike during an interview at the BMW Championship on Friday.

Asked about the decision to make Colin Kaepernick the face of the new “Just Do It” campaign, Woods toed the company line when talking about the new Nike ad that debuted last night during Thursday Night Football.

“I think Nike is trying to get out ahead of it and trying to do something special and I think they’ve done that,” Woods said. “It’s a beautiful spot and pretty powerful people in the spot.”

Woods also said that despite his longtime affiliation with the brand, he was unaware the Kaepernick campaign was on the way.

“They did not tell me it was coming,” he said. “When corporate does things that are outside of golf and outside of my realm, that’s what they do.”

Considering Nike was one of the few sponsors to stick with Woods throughout his struggles on and off the course, his loyalty shouldn’t be all the surprising.

What is surprising is that Woods, who last week defended President Trump, would publicly take a stance which would clash with the Commander in Chief, a vehement critic of both Nike and Kaepernick.
