Tide Rolls In Again: Alabama Is No. 1 in AP Preseason Poll for Third Straight Year

The Crimson Tide are just the second team to start off with the poll's top spot for three straight seasons.

Going for their second straight national championship, the Alabam Crimson Tide already have one three-peat in the bag.

Ranked No. 1 in the AP’s preseason NCAA football poll, the Crimson Tide are just the second team to occupy the top spot before the start of the season for three years in a row since the poll was started in 1950.

No. 1 in the preseason poll from 1985-87, the Oklahoma Sooners were the first.

Winners of five national championships under head coach Nick Saban since 2009, Alabama received 42 out of 61 first-place votes.

Clemson came in No. 2 in the poll, Georgia No.3, Wisconsin No. 4, and Ohio State at No. 5.

It’s likely the ongoing investigation into suspended Ohio State coach Urban Meyer likely played a factor in the Buckeyes being ranked behind the Badgers in the poll.

The University of Central Florida, the only school in the country to go undefeated last season, is ranked in the Top 25 for the first time to the start the season at No. 21.
