On Thursday, the NFL, Pepsi and Roc Nation announced the Super Bowl LV halftime show will be headlined by The Weeknd.

The Weeknd, whose 2020 album After Hours is the most-streamed R&B album of all time, confirmed getting the lucrative gig with a post on his Instagram account.

“We all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position,” the singer said in a statement. “I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage.”

The three-time Grammy Award winner, who was named one of the most influential people of 2020 by Time, is the second selection for the halftime show Roc Nation has made since partnering with the NFL and Pepsi last season.

“The Weeknd has introduced a sound all his own,” said Roc Nation founder Jay-Z. “His soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry. This is an extraordinary moment in time and the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show is going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer.”

Unless it is forced to shift due to game cancellations related to COVID-19, Super Bowl LV will be held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday, February 7, 2021.
