Super Bowl Champion Eagles Likely Lose Starting QB for the Season…Again

Carson Wentz will need at least three months to recover from a back injury, according to ESPN.

Much like last season, the Philadelphia Eagles will turn to backup quarterback Nick Foles to lead them towards the playoffs.

Unlike last year, they may not make it.

Unfortunately for the defending Super Bowl champs, starting quarterback Carson Wentz has a stress fracture in his back and will likely need at least three months to heal.

According to Philly head coach Doug Pederson, it’s an injury that has “evolved over time” and will not require surgery.

“The fact that he doesn’t need surgery on this is the best news that you could possibly have on anybody that has a stress fracture or a stress injury in this case,” Pederson said. “As long as we take the proper steps to make sure that all our players are 100 percent, then [there’s no concern].”

Given that three-month timetable, it seems highly unlikely Wentz will play again this season, especially with the 6–7 Eagles currently a longshot to make the postseason.

That said, the Eagles are still mathematically alive for a playoff spot and could have a chance to defend their title if they win out and the right combination of other teams lose.

For them to even have a shot, Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles will need to play the way he did last year after Wentz was sidelined with an injury during that playoff run.
