The brother of Olympic gymnast Simone Biles has been arrested and charged in connection to a shooting at a New Year’s Eve party at a Cleveland Airbnb that left three people dead and two others wounded.

Tevin Biles-Thomas is charged with murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault and perjury related to the shooting which killed barber Devaughn Gibson, 23, student DelVaunte Johnson, 19 and laborer Toshon Banks, 21, according to

All three died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner. Johnson was a student, Gibson a barber and Banks a laborer, according to medical examiner records.

Details about the shooting are scarce, but authorities say an “uninvited group” entered the party and “an altercation ensued” which led to gunfire. Biles-Thomas, who previously served in the U.S. Army, was identified by Cleveland police as the shooter, according to CNN.

“The relentless persistence of Cleveland police homicide detectives helped secure an indictment in this case,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor O’Malley said in a statement. “It is through their hard work that we can begin to seek justice for these victims.”

Biles-Thomas, 24, is in custody and is being held in Liberty County in advance of his arraignment on September 13 in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.

On Twitter, the 22-year-old Olympic gold medalist had a very brief reaction to the news.
