Saints Will Start Taysom Hill, Not Jameis Winston, At QB in Place of Drew Brees

The Saints went 5-0 with Teddy Bridgewater when Brees was sidelined last season

After starting New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees suffered cracked ribs and a punctured lung against San Francisco on Sunday, it was Jameis Winston who came in and finished out the 27-13 win over the 49ers.

But when New Orleans returns to the field this weekend to take on Atlanta, it will be Taysom Hill who is under center against the Falcons, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Winston completed 6-of-10 passes for 63 yards with no touchdowns and no turnovers in place of Brees while Hill played one series at QB last week, running the ball four times for 36 yards with a lost fumble.

A triple-threat who can run and catch the ball as well as throw it, the BYU product has completed just 11-of-20 passes in his career, including the playoffs, for a total of 255 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception.

Despite the poor passing numbers, the Saints gave Hill all the first-team reps at practice this week and Winston will not be part of any offensive packages Sunday versus the Falcons, per Schefter.

Elsewhere in NFL personnel news for Week 11, Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett will be out against the Philadelphia Eagles after the team placed him on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The NFL sack leader is also in jeopardy of missing next week’s game in Jacksonville because he needs to be away from the team for at least 10 days and receive medical clearance before returning to the field.
