New England owner Robert Kraft said he's holding out hope Gronk might un-retire

Making his debut on Fox’s NFL pregame show on Thursday night, Rob Gronkowski didn’t close the door to potentially returning to the Patriots.

“I would have to be feeling it – feeling it big time to come back,” the 30-year-old said. “It’s always going to be open in my mind.”

As for the rest of Gronkowski’s Fox debut, the highlight was probably when he compared Patriots receiver Julian Edelman to a squirrel because he is furry and gets nuts.

Gronkowski’s non-squirrel-related-comments came on the heels of New England owner Robert Kraft saying he was holding out hope that the star right end will eventually un-retire.

“We all love Gronk, and I think the bottom line is he hasn’t put his retirement papers in. So we can always pray and hope,” Kraft said Thursday. “There is hope for us still with Gronk.”

Whether Gronk comes back or not, there’s little doubt that the Patriots could use him as their offense has struggled at times this season.

During last night’s 35-14 win over the Giants, the offense produced just 21 of New England’s 35 points.

Asked after the game whether the offense had been good enough, Tom Brady — who moved into the No. 2 spot on the NFL’s all-time passing list during the game — didn’t give a very strong response.

“We’ll see,” Brady said. “We’re 6-0, so try to get to 7-0.”
