Though he has spurned ESPN’s offers to join the Monday Night Football team on numerous occasions in the past, Peyton Manning hasn’t closed the door on taking a gig as a television broadcaster.
Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday, the two-time Super Bowl winner said he “[hasn’t] said no forever” to the prospect of stepping into the broadcast booth.
“I believe in taking it a year at time; that’s kinda what Eli’s doing,” Manning said. “That’s what I’ve tried to do. I don’t really have a five-year plan or a 10-year plan. I hear people say that. I loved playing football, I loved everything about it. I’ve just tried to ease into this second chapter by keeping myself busy, keeping myself stimulated, creating a lot of time for my family and to do some things I haven’t had the chance to do.”
It’s previously been reported Manning turned down ESPN because he didn’t want to be put in a position where he would have to criticize his brother Eli. That should no longer be an issue as the younger Manning is now retired from the NFL and considering the next steps in his post-football life.
Though it wasn’t in the broadcast booth Manning put his on-camera chops on display alongside Tiger Woods on Sunday during The Match. Always a fan favorite, Manning emerged as a winner and helped raise millions for COVID-19 relief.
Should he ever accept a TV gig, millions are certainly waiting for him.
