The overtime goal that Patrick Kane scored against the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010 to win the Chicago Blackhawks the Stanley Cup has been named the NHL’s “Goal of the Decade.”

Chosen by NHL.com and NHL.com International staff members as the top goal of the 2010s, Kane’s goal ended Chicago’s 49-year year championship drought and kickstarted a run that saw the Blackhawks win additional Cups in 2013 over the Bruins and in 2015 over the Lightning.
The Blackhawks were leading the 2010 game in the third period until Flyers forward Scott Hartnell scored with 3:59 remaining in regulation to tie the game at 3-3. That set up Kane to score as he carried the puck toward Flyers goalie Michael Leighton with less than 16 minutes remaining in OT.
“I was calling for the puck, trying to make a play on the defenseman [Kimmo] Timonen,” Kane said. “I just got around him and saw a path to be able to get a puck on net. I wasn’t really thinking I’d score on that shot but maybe you’re shooting for a rebound, create some havoc. I just saw it go through his legs, hit the pad and stick in the inside of the net there.”
The unveiling of the NHL’s First and Second All-Decade Teams will be on January 24 at 6:30 p.m.
