NFL Teams Most Likely to Regress This Season

If they don't repeat as Super Bowl champs, will the Eagles even make the playoffs?

At the start of the NFL playoffs, even the most diehard Philly fan didn’t think the Eagles – with backup quarterback Nick Foles at the helm – would be Super Bowl champs when all was said and done.

But, as they say, any given Sunday … and the Eagles put enough given Sundays together to carry them all the way to glory.

The question is: can they do it again? According to CBS football guru Will Brinson – maybe not.

After the Eagles went 13-3 in the 2017 regular season, Vegas has installed their projected over/under win total for this season at just 10.5.

As Brinson points out, the Eagles have done nothing this offseason to make them any worse, but the rest of the NFC has gotten better, and every division has at least one legitimate Super Bowl contender, in some cases two.

If Carson Wentz struggles or fails to return healthy, Philadelphia could have a quarterback controversy to deal with. That and the prospect of injuries could limit the team to 10 wins or fewer. This year in the NFC, a team could win 10 games and still miss the postseason.

“I love what Howie Roseman has done and think the Eagles could easily win the Super Bowl a second year in a row,” Brinson writes. “I firmly believe they are the favorites to win the division again, but that’s what people said about the Cowboys before 2017 too.”

Brinson also anticipates the Bills, Titans, Panthers, and Chiefs will all struggle this season and could finish worse off than they did last year.
