The owner of Washington’s football team has reportedly “taken over” the team’s board ahead of this evening’s draft.

If you are a fan of that football franchise, you should be very, very afraid.

The last time Daniel Snyder assumed control of the board, Washington traded two future No. 1 picks and a No. 2 to move up to select quarterback Robert Griffin. It was a shrewd move … for a season.

Following a stellar rookie year, Griffin — due to a combination of injury and team’s getting tape on him — fell off in a big way and has been bouncing around the league as a sometimes starter and backup for a few years now. Meanwhile, Washington has been weathering the storm of losing those future picks for what amounts to one good season of quarterback play from Griffin.

In this year’s draft, good quarterback play is reportedly what Snyder is seeking, and reports indicate he is targeting a move into the top five of the draft in order to pick his signal caller of the future. The Jets and 49ers both have top-five picks, and neither team needs a quarterback.

“This decision is going to come down to, and be made by, president Bruce Allen and owner Dan Snyder,” Dianna Russini said on ESPN. “They’re the ones making the call on where they want to go with this pick. And the name I keep hearing is Dwayne Haskins.”

For what it’s worth, team spokesman Tony Wyllie called the report about Snyder taking over the team’s first-round decision making “categorically false.”
