LeBron James had a record-setting night on Tuesday when he clinched a triple-double average for the month of February. But he also became the first player in NBA history to tally more than 30,000 points, 8,000 rebounds and 8,000 assists. After the Cleveland Cavaliers’ win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, James said, “With the long list of so many great players that have come through this league, in the history of this league, for me to be the only [person] in a category, I think it’s pretty cool. It’s pretty cool. I take pride in my game. I’ve always taken pride in being a triple threat since I started playing basketball, and I never wanted to be labeled as a scorer.” James goes on to say he always wanted to be labeled as an all-around basketball player because he gets more gratification from the assists than anything. He also told ESPN, “I need my own category,” now that he set himself apart with that statistical achievement.
James had 31 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists during the game against the Nets, which gave him his 12th triple-double of the season and the 67th of his 15-year career. During the 10 games he played in January, James averaged 27 points on 54.6 percent shooting, 10.5 rebounds and 10.5 assists.
