After a stint playing Fan Controlled Football, wide receiver Josh Gordon is returning to the NFL. ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news on Twitter, along with Gordon’s destination: the Kansas City Chiefs.
Earlier this year, Gordon was suspended indefinitely from the league as a result of what ESPN termed “Gordon violating terms of his conditional reinstatement under the league’s substance-abuse policy.” At the time, reporter Brady Henderson noted, it was Gordon’s sixth suspension from the league since his All-Pro season in 2013, five of which were a result of substance abuse policies.
During his time away from the NFL, Gordon played in the Fan Controlled Football league alongside his onetime teammate Johnny Manziel as a franchise player for the Zappers. His first game for the Zappers found him with a pair of touchdowns, including the game winner.
Based on a report by Schefter at ESPN, Gordon is set to join the Chiefs’ practice squad tonight, and will likely move to the active roster shortly afterwards. The article notes that several teams had sought to sign Gordon, and that — according to his agents — the prospect of playing for several seasons in Kansas City appealed to him.
