New Orleans is hoping a player who’s known for throwing up the X will be the X factor in their run to the Super Bowl.

The Saints agreed to a one-year contract with Dez Bryant to help bolster their receiving corps over the second half of the season – and it just might work.

Competitive and still capable of getting off the line, Bryant immediately gives Drew Brees an excellent second red zone option, something the team has lacked behind top receiver Michael Thomas.

Though he isn’t as fast as he once was, Bryant still should have elite run-after-the-catch ability thanks to his prowess at using his big frame to break tackles in bunches.

Saints coach Sean Payton should be able to scheme up ways to get Bryant open and Brees should be able to get him the ball, making the 30-year-old receiver an excellent option for picking up key third downs.

If the Saints are going to make it all the way to the Super Bowl and possibly win the thing, Bryant could be the piece that puts them over the top.

“At the end of the day, this trade is a continuation of the Saints’ ‘all-in’ philosophy for 2018,” according to Yahoo Sports. “They dealt a pair of premium draft picks to move up and select Marcus Davenport – a sorely-needed edge rusher to pair with Cam Jordan – and they also traded a 2019 third-round pick so Teddy Bridgewater can be protection against an injury to Brees. Now they’ve added Bryant to bolster a receiving corps that features Thomas and little else. They should be saluted for that; now it just has to work.”
