Is Anthony Davis Already Thinking of Leaving the Lakers?

Team executives can't be happy about what their 26-year-old star is saying

With the bulk of America feeling the effects of a summer heatwave, no one is sweating more than executives with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Team execs are feeling hot under the collar because the acquisition of the offseason, All-Star Anthony Davis, has not yet committed to remaining in L.A. after his contract is up following the upcoming season.

Were Davis to bolt from the Lakers as a free agent, that would mean the haul of picks and players that L.A. surrendered to the New Orleans Pelicans bring the 26-year-old star to town was given up for a single season of play.

Now, if the Lakers happens to win the championship this year, that might be worth it, but anything short of that would make the Davis deal a failure if he does leave Los Angeles next summer.

Based on what Davis is saying, that sounds as if it is a real possibility.

“I’m just focused on this season,” Davis said in an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols. “I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I have one year here, so I’m gonna make the best of this year, and when that time comes around in the summer or whenever the season’s over — hopefully around mid-June after we just had this parade and I need a couple of days to think — then we can talk about that. But until then, I’ll try to do whatever I can to help this team win this year.”

Davis also told The Chicago Tribune that he would consider playing for his hometown Bulls at some point in his career should the opportunity arise.

“I mean, (this is) definitely hometown,” Davis told the publication. “If the opportunity ever presents itself and when that time comes, I’d definitely consider it. No matter if it’s hot or freezing cold in the gym or outside it’s raining, whatever, any basketball player from Chicago, it means a lot more to us because we are a basketball city. And we are the Mecca of basketball. You can quote me on that.”
