Green Team Effort Overwhelms Royal Performance From King James

LeBron’s 42 points weren’t enough to stop Boston beating Cleveland 107-94.

At the start of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals, LeBron James figuratively punched the Boston Celtics in the mouth by scoring 21 of Cleveland’s 27 points in the first quarter.

Then, despite taking a literal shot to the jaw courtesy of Jayson Tatum’s shoulder, James continued his offensive onslaught, finishing the night with 42 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, who also got 22 points and 15 rebounds from Kevin Love, it wasn’t enough as Cleveland fell 107-94 to Boston on Tuesday.

James’ individual performance couldn’t overcome a complete team effort from the Celtics that saw Jaylen Brown go for 23 points, Terry Rozier drop 18, Al Horford chip in 15, Tatum score 11, Marcus Morris put in 12 and Marcus Smart chip in 11 points and nearly as many hustle plays.

“I think we just have a group of guys that really believe in each other,” Horford said. “Our group in tough times, we’ve always found a way.”

With the win, the Celtics – who have never blown a 2-0 series lead in the playoffs – improved to 9-0 this postseason at TD Garden.

Game 3 is Saturday in Cleveland.
